A fully “driverless” Xiaomi YU7 GT with Track Package has set a new lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In fact, it’s the first-ever automated lap record set at the Green Hell, with the performance-focused EV setting a time of 10 minutes and 29.483 seconds, as confirmed by the Chinese automaker, around this track’s 20.8 km northern loop. With no one in the driver’s seat, or human intervention of any kind, this marks the first official baseline around the ‘Ring for production autonomous software for a vehicle of this kind. For context, the YU7 GT previously managed a lap time of 7 minutes 34.931 seconds when it took on the Nordschliefe, with chief test driver Ren Zhoucan behind the wheel.
The YU7 GT’s ‘Hyper V8S EVO’ dual electric-motor setup produces a combined power output of 738 kW, split 288 and 455 kW between the fore and aft electric motors, respectively. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a single-speed transmission. In this configuration, the YU7 GT completes the 0-100 km sprint in a claimed 2.9 seconds, on its way to a governed 300 km/h top speed.
